On July 14, 2017, the preliminary Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) institutional characteristics data for the 2016-17 academic year was released. 2016 Fall Enrollment (Preliminary)

The National Center for Education Statistic’s Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) recently released the 2016 fall enrollment survey data. This report is a quick summary of that fall enrollment data as we are begin to work on our annual report that should be released in the next few weeks. For the first time since the reporting of distance education began, private for-profit enrollments are below both public and private, not-for-profit institutions.

2016 Fall Enrollment

For the fifth straight year, The Center for Distance Education Research is releasing its annual analysis of the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) fall enrollment survey. While many other reports will be released from various sources, our report reflects a comprehensive view of the past five years of fall enrollment data from degree-seeking institutions. Our report is a valuable resource for researchers, institutional administrators, academic affairs officers and the public in general. This report compares all data to fall 2012, the first release of distance education data from IPEDS.

The National Center for Education Statistics' Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) began releasing preliminary 2016 data in July 2017. This page will keep you apprised of all of the changes in IPEDS data and report on changes from previous years submissions. At this point, the data is preliminary and we will also update our data as soon as the final data from IPEDS is available. The research conducted by the Center for Distance Education Research is only on Degree-Granting institutions. Our data will not always match reports released by IPEDS unless it is specific to degree-granting institutions.
